The Open Letter to President Obama on transplant policy was developed following a meeting of scholars at Princeton University. It is entirely independent of any organization. It will be delivered to the White House and other recipients in October 2014 around the 30th Anniversary of the National Organ Transplant Act which governs policy on organ transplants. The field of transplantation has changed and improved over the last 30 years but policy has remained static. The letter hopes to generate a commitment on the part of the government to examine the assumptions that surround transplant policy and initiate pilot studies that result in evidence based policy on transplantation.
